A ragged, untitled, and undated newspaper clipping from the Archives of the Church of God General Conference (CGGC) in Findlay Ohio looks like something from an album kept by my Great Grandmother Earp from her Civil War girlhood, but it has a story to tell of far-reaching impact, one of interest even to myself, her great-grandson and a small-time Oklahoma historian resident in Japan. The clipping appeared in the Fall/Spring 2023 number of the CGGC Archives Museum Magazine published in Findlay, Ohio. The faded newsprint bears the title “Church of God Minister to Insurrectionist John Brown George Sigler Pastor, Minister to John Brown” and relates John Brown’s visit to Berkittsville Maryland in 1859.
